Abdul Bazara Byakagaba is a Petroleum Geoscientist with 25 years experience in the upstream petroleum sector. Abdul received an MSc in Sedimentology and its Applications from Reading University in 1994, an MBA Strategic Planning (2014) and MBA Oil/Gas Management (2015) from Edinburgh Business School, Heriot Watt University UK.

Abdul has had a two-pronged career consisting of both technical expertise and management in the oil industry. He worked with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development where he rose to the level of Principal Petroleum Geologist (1992-2004). He also worked with Heritage Oil in Uganda and Tanzania (2004-2010) and became the deputy Country Manager for Heritage Oil in 2008. When Tullow Oil acquired Heritage assets in 2010, he was taken on as Transition Manager to help integrate assets, staff and processes of the two companies.

He joined Oranto Petroleum Limited in July 2018 as a Technical Coordinator and became General Manager at the Uganda office. He is also a Tutor of Strategic Planning and Project Management to students on Masters of Business Administration course for Edinburgh Business School – Heriot Watt University UK, as well as a lecturer of Petroleum Economics at Makerere University Department of Geology and Petroleum Studies.

He is also skillful in cross culture management, liaison, building teams, change agent, coordination and has built teams and capacities of geoscientists in research and research methodologies, report compilation and petroleum promotion activities.
